Description

As part of the Multimodal Intelligence Team (MINT), with a track record of delivering innovations from the Apple Foundation Model to real-world applications like Visual Intelligence, you will tackle the practical challenges of scaling, optimizing, for building large models as well as integrating such models and agents into Apple products. You'll collaborate with world-class engineers and scientists to push the boundaries of foundation models and agentic systems while delivering real-world impact

Responsibilities

  • You will work on advancing the post-training capabilities of multimodal foundation models for agentic applications. This includes researching and developing methods to improve how these models understand, reason about, and interact with complex environments through techniques like supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning from various reward signals.
  • You will design evaluation frameworks to assess agent performance on realistic tasks and experiment with training strategies that enhance the model's ability to perceive multimodal inputs, understand intent, and execute complex autonomous behaviors. A key part of your role will be staying current with emerging research in foundation model agents, identifying techniques that could advance the state-of-the-art in autonomous systems.
    Your work will involve large-scale multimodal datasets combining visual, textual, and interaction data to push the boundaries of agent capabilities. A primary goal of this internship is to produce novel research suitable for publication at a top-tier conference. You will collaborate with researchers and engineers passionate about creating more capable autonomous systems, contributing to cutting-edge research in this rapidly evolving field.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a PhD degree or equivalent experience in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Data Science, Statistics or related areas.
  • Experience with large language models or vision language models and their application in agentic systems.
  • Proficient programming skills in Python and experience with at least one modern deep learning framework (PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated publication record in relevant conferences (e.g. NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, etc).
  • Experience with foundation models (language, vision-language, or multimodal).
  • Experience post training (SFT or RL) for optimizing large models for agentic systems.

About the role

Barry Callebaut's Business Optimization Programs team is on the hunt for a sharp, innovative Data Scientist to help shape the future of cocoa – one algorithm at a time. In this role, you'll be at the heart of some of our most exciting strategic initiatives, collaborating across departments to unlock value and drive smart decision-making. Work at the forefront of our digital transformation, using your expertise in Python, advanced statistical modeling, and AI/ML to deliver high impact projects from conception to execution. Key responsibilities include

  • Work together with Global Cocoa teams to understand complex business challenges and translate them into data science use cases and solutions
  • Identify and drive new ideas and innovative data solutions with significant business impact, converting ideas into concrete designs and projects
  • Analyze and structure large, and complex data sets using statistical, ML/AI and other modern data science techniques and frameworks, to identify trends and provide insights
  • Design, build, test and deploy data models and other data products using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Collaborate with cross-functional business and digital teams to successfully deploy data model solutions across Global Cocoa division
  • Thoughtfully communicate complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner

About you

  • Phd or Post Doctorate's degree in Computer Science or related STEM field
  • 8+ years of experience in model optimization, data science or related field using programming languages such as Python
  • Working experience in modeling optimization tools using SCIP and/or Gurobi, as well as experience with SQL, relational databases, and data frame libraries
  • Working experience with Microsoft Azure AI and Dev Ops
  • Working experience with AI coding assistants e.g. cursor, replit, gpt code agent etc.
  • Fluent knowledge of English (other languages spoken in the Barry Callebaut world, are a plus)
  • Proficient in Python
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical modeling techniques (time series methods)
  • Knowledge of advanced AI/ML techniques for forecasting, optimization and prediction
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric
  • Knowledge of Azure DevOps, or similar tools highly desirable
  • Analytical problem solving
  • Basic project management knowledge (a plus)
  • Understanding of cocoa industry (a plus)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working in cross-functional teams
  • Ability to engage both with technical and non-technical teams and management
  • High level of credibility
  • Adaptability and willingness to come forward with new ideas on how to improve ways of working
  • Positive, proactive, and hands-on working style
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams with business and technical stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in a clear and engaging way (written and oral)

Responsabilités

  • Développer des solutions performantes pour la classification précise des couleurs de cadran
  • Élaborer des outils d'identification et de classification des composants
  • Renforcer la capacité à classifier les RMC de manière fiable et automatisée

  • Assurer la maintenance et l'évolution des jeux de données en lien avec les besoins métiers et technologiques

  • Garantir la qualité, la cohérence et la sécurité des données utilisées

  • Concevoir, développer et déployer des cas d'usage à forte valeur ajoutée en data science

  • Maintenir une relation régulière et constructive avec nos partenaires académiques pour favoriser les échanges et la montée en compétences, notamment dans le cadre de projets de master

  • Accompagner et soutenir les groupes Data Science métiers dans l'industrialisation de leurs cas d'usage
  • Travailler en étroite collaboration avec les équipes R&D pour garantir l'alignement entre les solutions techniques et les enjeux métiers

Profil

  • Diplômé(e) d'un Master en Data Science
  • Maîtrise approfondie de Dataiku et des techniques avancées de science des données
  • Expertise en classification et manipulation de jeux de données complexes
  • Expérience démontrée en gestion de projet et en coordination de partenaires internes et externes
  • Excellentes aptitudes en communication, capacité à travailler en équipe et à dialoguer avec différents interlocuteurs
  • Sens du service, rigueur et discrétion
