As a trainee, you'll join our Energy Industries Division teams for Excitation Systems and Process Automation, gaining practical experience with our technology and customer projects. An international assignment will enhance your global collaboration skills and prepare you for a permanent role.

Based on a personal, practice-oriented introduction program, you will be given the opportunity to acquire the confidence needed to work independently as well as to be a constructive member of inclusive teams within your assigned area. Start date of the program is
April 1, 2026.
The selection process is taking place in October/November 2025.

Explore your interests and different roles through impactful assignments, where you're fully integrated into the team and supported by regular feedback and clear performance goals. Benefit from tailored training, mentoring, executive exposure, and guidance from the Discovery Program team.

The trainee program consists of three assignments, each lasting six months:

  • 1st Assignment in Untersiggenthal, Switzerland: Start your learning journey being involved in the introduction of a newly developed Excitation product platform and optimize the order execution end-to-end processes together with the subject-matter experts. Identify room for improvement for further reduction of cost and effort along the value chain.
  • 2nd Assignment abroad: Transfer the gained experience to one of our other local execution centres (such as Canada, China or India) and support on addressing further improvement potential on the product introduction.
  • 3rd Assignment in Untersiggenthal Switzerland: complete your journey in the Automation team by being the main contributor in our marketing approach for expert services in the field of simulation capabilities, designing marketing material, reflecting the right price strategy and best execution model.

Your Background

  • Completed BSc or MSc degree in Engineering or Automation with demonstrated interest in areas such as industrial automation, lean management or converter technologies
  • Applicants should have no more than three years of professional work experience before the start date April 1, 2026 (Additionally: authorization to work in Switzerland is required)
  • Proficient in English; knowledge of German would be beneficial

Job responsibilities:

  • Design, simulate, and develop high-voltage power electronic converters (AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC) for applications such as energy storage, EV powertrains, renewables, or industrial drives.
  • Select and evaluate power semiconductors (Si, SiC, GaN) and gate driver circuits for high-voltage, high-frequency switching applications.
  • Perform electrical circuit simulation using SPICE, PLECS, or MATLAB/Simulink for converter behavior, transient response, and protection strategies.
  • Develop schematics and PCB layouts for power and control circuits using Altium or equivalent; optimize for creepage/clearance, thermal paths, and EMI mitigation.
  • Design and specify magnetic components (inductors, transformers) and collaborate with vendors for custom magnetics.

**Job Description**
As a member of an international team of scientists, engineers, software developers, you will support development of our new instruments and improvements of the products already on the market. To achieve the expected instrument performances, managing a team of electrical/electronics engineers, you will identify new opportunities to improve the instruments under development. The role requires capability to manage people, and technical skills to cover product innovation, proof of concept, design, and industrialization phase.
**Responsibilities:**
**Technical: 70%**
+ Plan, organize and ensure the realization and completion of engineering tasks assigned to you.
+ Support the technical realization of prototypes and products.
+ Support the industrialization and certification process for the developed products.
+ Support internal (e.g. Manufacturing, Global Technical Support) and external customers.
+ Communicate and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to deliver outstanding customer experience for all Metals & Minerals products.
**Leadership: 30%**
+ Leading the Metals&Minerals team of electronics/electrical engineers located on site and remote.
+ Training, setting objectives of the team, mitigating conflicts, acting as career mentor, monitoring working time and absence, managing compensation and benefits and performance process.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Education in Electrical Engineer or Electronic Engineering.
+ 5+ years of experience in electrical/electronic engineering, product development or a similar position.
+ Very good knowledge of Altium software
+ Experience in spectrometry/spectroscopy is helpful.
+ Hands-on, solution-oriented with ability to work and take initiative on design, test, validation up to product certification.
+ Team player, technical leadership, autonomous
+ Proficient in English
