Under the overall supervision of GITSU, the intern will:
• Design and develop Power Apps to automate IT services tasks and workflows.
• Implement software tools to automate monitoring activities and clean-up processes.
• Draft and maintain system and desktop configuration documentation and reports.
• Support the development of apps for IT asset recording using mobile cameras and barcode scanning.
• Assist in identifying opportunities for automation and provide recommendations for process improvement.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for the United Nations Secretariat internship programme applicants must, at the time of their submission, be enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (i.e. Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree); be enrolled in a graduate school programme (i.e. Master's degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or have completed an aforementioned academic degree, preferably in the area of:
• Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Proven knowledge of Microsoft Power Apps, Power Automate, ASP.Net, MVC with C# programming language and SQL server experience with related development environments.
• Skills in programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, PowerShell) are an asset.

  • Application Management:
    Create and deploy Windows application packages and manage monthly patch deployments via automated systems.
  • User Training & Onboarding:

    Oversee local data center operations, coordinating with vendors and ensuring compliance with change control procedures.

  • Project Support:
    Assist in infrastructure projects, ensuring smooth transitions from deployment to operational handover.

Ideal experience / background:

  • 3+ years of experience supporting multi-vendor environments, ideally Linux, VMware, and Microsoft products.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft operating systems and applications, including Windows 10/11, Server 2012/2016/2019, Office 365, and Intune.
  • Solid understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, and PowerShell.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms like Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop and VMware vSphere.
  • Hands-on experience with collaboration tools such as Office 365, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and OneDrive.
  • Strong customer service skills, excellent communication (both verbal and written), and the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCSA, MCSE) are advantageous.

What You’ll Do:

  • Knowledge of scripting/programming languages such as Python, Java, or Bash.
  • Basic understanding of virtualization (e.G., VMware).
  • Basic knowledge of networking and security (WAN, LAN, firewalls, proxies).
  • Customer-oriented personality with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Goal-oriented and able to work independently and collaboratively. Nice to Have Familiarity with web application and high-availability technologies (e.G., Tomcat, NGINX, PCS).
  • Experience with relational databases such as Oracle or MySQL. Understanding of Kubernetes clusters and microservices architecture.
